Sports Physical Therapy in San Antonio, TX

BACK ON THE FIELD. STRONGER.

Most PT clinics treat athletes the same way they treat anyone else: 20 minutes, an aide, and a generic exercise sheet. At Puckett PT, you get the full attention of a sports-specialist Doctor of PT for every minute of every session, with programming built specifically for your sport and your goals.

What Happens When Athletes Settle for Cookie-Cutter PT Care?

You're Rushed Through 20-Minute Appointments

Standard insurance PT gives you a fraction of the time you need. You're handed off to an aide, given the same exercises as the next patient, and sent home. That's not sports rehab. It's a conveyor belt.

Your Program Isn't Built for Your Sport

A cookie-cutter protocol can get you out of pain, but it won't get you back on the field at full speed. Athletes need progressive, sport-specific loading to return to competition safely and confidently.

You Return "Cleared" but Not Ready

Being cleared by your doctor is not the same as being ready to compete. Without proper return-to-sport testing and progressive loading, athletes rush back and reinjure themselves, losing even more of their season.

I had an amazing experience with Dr. Knapp. I’ve had a foot injury that got much worse after running a marathon. He did a thorough examination and helped me achieve my goal of returning back to running without pain or discomfort. Dr. Puckett made the payment and how everything works very clear. Definitely would recommend to anyone needing a quality sports physical therapist!

The care I receive from Dr. Knapp at Puckett PT has been efficient and thorough. The out-of-network model benefits the patient by allowing them to use the full hour for adept care directly led by Dr. Knapp. Dr. Knapp makes sure my form is correct while doing my exercises. He challenges me to keep progressing with my HEP. The atmosphere is always positive and motivating, and my results have been amazing!

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from athletes and parents.

How is this different from the PT I've already tried?

Most PT clinics double-book patients and hand them off to aides after a few minutes with the PT. At Puckett PT, every minute of every 60-minute session is one-on-one with your Doctor of PT. There are no handoffs, no cookie-cutter protocols, and no programs built for the general population.

Do you take insurance?

We are a cash-based clinic, which means no insurance limitations on session length, frequency, or who treats you. We accept HSA/FSA cards, Tricare, credit cards, and most major payment methods. Superbills are available upon request for out-of-network reimbursement through your plan.

Do I need a referral or prescription to start?

No referral is needed to start. Texas law requires a physician prescription after two weeks of PT treatment, but you can begin your evaluation and early sessions before that. Our team can help you obtain the prescription through a physician of your choice if needed.

How many sessions will I need?

Every athlete and injury is different. After your initial evaluation, your Doctor of PT will outline a personalized plan based on your injury, your sport, and your return-to-competition goals. We move at your pace, but we move with purpose.

Do you work with youth athletes?

Yes. Youth athletes are our primary focus. We work with middle school and high school athletes across San Antonio, including athletes from Alamo Heights, MacArthur, and local university programs. Parents are always welcome to be part of the process.
